Rev. Joseph Chalmers, a native of Scotland, was Prior General of the worldwide Carmelite order for 12 years. He has a law degree from Glasgow University and studied philosophy and theology at the Gregorian University, Rome, completing a licentiate degree in theology. He has written a number of books on prayer and Carmelite spirituality, some of which have been translated into several languages.
